INTO THE SEWER

The party, in the darkened cavern below the Tower of Thalivar, tries to decide what to do. They strike out down the tunnels, and come to a T with two dead ends. One is sealed with rubble, which Kif pulls down. The way is cleared into a sewer drain, which narrows into a dark pipe, where a disgusting stream of effluence flows.

The party creeps through the dark and comes to a choice: a path leading upwards towards a wooden door, or further into a pipe following the shit river. They choose the wooden door.

THALIVAR’S EXPERIMENT

Ender very, very carefully cracks the door and peers inside. The room is lit by torches, and the wall he can see is lined with skulls and jars of all kinds of biological and monstrous specimens. He hears nothing other than the burbling of water.

After making a careful entry the party sees the whole room is lined with these shelves. A spring bubbles up in the center of the room, before a large golden altar to the god of justice, Tyr. Tyr is dressed as a blindfolded woman holding two scales – but only one scale has a balance and the other is missing.

As they all enter and look around to see this, the door slams shut. A pink gas begins to slowly fill the room at their feet.

On a desk, they find various random magical items, and a note:

Experimental Notes #7093

An update on the previously described Altar of Tyr (see Experimental Notes #4584). I am pleased to report that the experimental method was successful.
As I suspected, the altar was incomplete. One measure of it’s balance scale was missing, and restoring the precise opposing weight has restored it’s magical nature.

This took longer than I expected, but then again Tyr is an exacting god who demands discipline or death. Or at least in my method, trial and error. Mostly error.

Despite my methods labor intensive nature, I did finally get one that figured out the correct solution.

The answer is exactly 4 gallons of water. No more, no less.

House of Thalivar, January of the Year 1256

Examining the spring they find two intact glass carboys, labeled 3 and 5.

They surmise to fill the 5, and pour it into the 3, leaving two gallons in the 5. Maardaar scribes the fill line, pours it into the 3, and fills the 5 to the line. Then they dump the 3 into the 5, making 4 gallons. They place it on the altar.

They manage to do this before the gas fills the room, and the two doors open and a cross breeze blows the poison away.

STRANGE STUFF

The party continues deeper into the sewer, finding two mangy dogs ripping apart a humanoid lizard corpse at one dead end of a pipe. Ender climbs through another pipe, and find another rotting humanoid corpse, this one so far gone it has become almost one with the muck, stuck in a drain. Ender finds a key ring with 2 keys on the corpse.

While he is exploring that, the party wait in a twisty series of passages, and around the corner comes a giant, pony sized insectoid with orange segmented plate exoskeleton. It has a large tail ending in a prong, and huge bushy antenna. It proceeds slowly down the passageway, feeling everything with it’s antenna.

They avoid it, and Morgana entangles it with her druid magic so that it cannot get anywhere. They slip past, avoiding the creatures touch. Ender rejoins them and they continue into another long passage.

Finding an engineers room with levers, Ender pulls one. A clanging and gurgling sound follows, and then silence. They turn back out of the room, and find the way closed off by rubble and a backed up sewer pool of shit.

They explore to higher ground down a side hallway and come to a locked metal gate and piles of trash. Ender picks the lock, and slips into the a lit back door way to find the basement kitchen of some building. A dwarf goes about knocking pots and pans and cursing. The shout of “ORDER UP” comes and the dwarf leaves, giving Ender time to grab a chicken and get away undetected.

Deeper into the sewer, they hear a familiar chanting….

DRUID’S LAST STAND

In a large domed cavern with vaulted stone ceiling, and a large drain in the center, they find the evil druid. He floats above the drain, again lost in concentration on his summoning magic. Three large oozes rise from the poop sludge around him. The party gets the drop on the druid and knocks him to the ground, where he is pummeled to death in short order before finishing the spell.

But as Kif drives the killing blow into the druid’s heart, blood drips out of his mouth and mixes with the river of sewage on the floor. The last dying gasp of the druid finishes the spell… almost. As the blood mixes with the foul liquid, the oozes all split it into 2.

With the druid bleeding out the party turns their attention to the oozes, and takes some serious damage before taking them all out, getting covered with shit in the process.

After they fight, they find a drain to the surface, and climb out, onto the main street of Leilon.
